Being communal creatures we often tend to take on a societal mob mentality. It is a survival attribute but it has a downside.
Rather than making an informed decision its easier just to go along with what is popular. Especially if its in line with a current pattern of thought. It can also make people feel better about what they do, if they have someone else to look down upon. Or some people fear what they don’t understand.
Religious beliefs mixed into cultures can sometimes play a part.
The most interesting part is that a large amount of people will come across someone in their life whom they care for and want the best for. Someone they think of as a sweet intelligent person. That same person would also have worked in the industry or still is.
People will stereotype the industry to be dirty and unlovable, not realising they actually already see the beauty of at least one person connected to it.
Personally, I think people need to be more careful on what they judge and say, you never know that you may be hurting someone you love unintentionally.
